April 2019

Welcome to the April 2019 Life Center newsletter. After a cold, wet winter, Spring is always a time of celebration at the Life Center with the highlight being the Pastors' Conference and Kingdom Fiesta in March. There's also been a Valentines Day dinner for some of the refugees, and a Life Leadership Institute graduation. So, please read on and enjoy the photos!

Life Leadership Institute

This year there have been two LLI Bible study courses run by Norman Thomas of Norman Thomas Ministries and Thomas Lohnke, a long-time friend of the Life Center and pastor of a church in Switzerland. The students who completed the first and second years of the course were presented with their certificates at the end of the March pastors' conference.

Valentines Day Dinner

The Valentines Day Dinner was held in the Life Center cafeteria for 30 refugee couples from the church. With games and some live music it was great fun, but possibly not terribly romantic! For the refugees however it was a treat, a time without the children as a couple, which doesn't happen very often in their culture. The children are always there and going out as a couple is not part of normal life. The intention is to follow-up the dinner with teaching about on marriage and family values.

Pastors Conference

The pastors' conference is an annual event held over two days. It was attended by 100 pastors from Syria and 40 from Egypt. As you can imagine this is a logistical challenge! The teaching and ministry was led by Keith Hershey of Mutual Faith Ministries and Sam Carr, both from the Unites States. Keith has been a major supporter of the Life Center from the beginning, and over more recent years has been joined by Sam, the pastor of the Word of Life Center in Louisiana.

The conference is a rare chance for relaxation and fellowship for the pastors who are on the front-line in their communities.

Kingdom Fiesta

The Kingdom Fiesta is a joyous celebration of music, dance and drama highlighting the talents of the many ethnic-minority churches which are associated with the Life Center. It's one of the main evangelistic events in the church calendar and you can count on a packed church on each of the three evenings. If you get the chance to be there, don't miss it!

The church has many children so as you can imagine the Sunday School is always very busy, and a vital part of the life of the church.

Baptisms

One Sunday morning in March there were several baptisms. The church of God is always expanding!

And last but not least...

Pastors Said and Cecile. Please continue to uphold them and the whole team at the Life Center in prayer. The challenges can be overwhelming, but the Lord is good!
